Winter 2018 Platinum Cellar Circle Selections
After a hectic holiday season, January’s more relaxed pace comes as a welcome relief. Our Winter 2018 Platinum selections were chosen to enjoy while partaking in any one of our favorite winter activities: après ski, an intimate dinner with friends or curled up on the couch binge-watching Game of Thrones. All three wines are from 2015, each distinctively showcasing the beautiful combination of power and finesse that marked the vintage.
The 2015 Andrew Januik Stone Cairn is a Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from three of Red Mountain’s finest vineyards: Obelisco, Quintessence and Ciel du Cheval, each a unique expression of Red Mountain terroir. This deep purple wine is overflowing with cassis, black raspberry and chocolate notes. It is multi-layered and textured with flavors that range from spice to mocha and dark fruit.
Your winter shipment also includes the 2015 Januik Reserve Red, a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. The Cabernet Sauvignon portion of this blend comes primarily from Champoux Vineyard and displays the great suppleness and concentration for which this Horse Heaven Hills site is known. Intriguing aromas of cassis, plum, and black raspberries fill the glass. This wine will age beautifully for the next 20 years.
Finally, the 2015 Novelty Hill Stillwater Creek Vineyard Merlot from the winery’s estate vineyard is a perennial favorite with consumers and critics alike, consistently rated 90+. With its ripe cherry and dark chocolate aromas and flavors, the wine is a perfect complement to Chef Seth Fernald’s recipe for Delicata Squash with Chevre and Coco Nibs, included with your shipment.
May you savor these wines in good health and good company in 2018 and beyond. Wishing you and your family all the best in the new year.
