Novelty Hill Winery

Estate-Grown Wine from Stillwater Creek Vineyard
- Founded 2000 -

Novelty Hill’s success is rooted in its estate vineyard, Stillwater Creek, located on the Royal Slope of the Frenchman Hills. In 1999, Tom Alberg of Seattle led vineyard planting on land his family had owned since the 1960s. Shortly thereafter, the Alberg family began making plans for a winery, establishing the Novelty Hill Winery in 2000 to capture the finest expression of their estate vineyard.

Mike Januik, Winemaker

When the Albergs first considered a vineyard, they asked Mike Januik to assess the property. He liked what he saw so much that he suggested the family start a winery. They agreed, provided Mike make the wines.

Meet the Albergs

In 1968, Thomas A. Alberg, Sr., purchased 235 acres of land now known as Stillwater Creek Vineyard in the Frenchman Hills of Washington’s Columbia Valley. Though the family had long suspected the land would make an excellent vineyard, it wasn’t until the Albergs gathered historical data from the property in the late 1990’s that the site’s suitability for wine grapes was confirmed.

Planting began in 2000 and shortly thereafter, Mr. Alberg’s son Tom and his wife Judi Beck, along with their children, established Novelty Hill to focus on crafting estate-grown wines from the family vineyard.
